After lunch, I went to a breakout on volunteer recruiting, training, and retaining. It was led by the three volunteer coordinators for FC Kids: there is one for elementary and two for early childhood. It was well done and motivating. It was neat to see the passion these coordinators had for volunteers and recruiting volunteers. Their highest priority is following up on phone calls for people who have asked for more information about volunteering. They are also very passionate about caring for the volunteers through training, face-to-face time and prayer and phone calls and cards.
One of the neat recruiting ideas that they do at Fellowship is offer “Volunteer Tours.” These are tours for those who express an interest in volunteering somewhere in the church. They take these people to all of the volunteer areas in the church. At each place is a representative for that volunteer opportunity who is given 5 minutes. At the end of the tour, the people are asked to fill out their contact info on a card and check off the areas they want to hear from. I thought that was a good idea.
